Event End Time:
Peak Solar Wind Speed (km/s): 720.0
Date of first appearance of coronal hole in EUV at east limb: 2025-04-13
Note: The arrival signature is characterized by a increase in the solar wind speed from ~400 km/s to ~700 km/s. There is also an associated increase in the ion temperature. Starting at 2025-04-20T17:29Z B_total increased from 8 nT to over 18 nT. This high speed stream is likely associated with a large southern, positive polarity coronal hole that crossed the central meridian on 2025-04-17 and is stretched for >120 degrees in east-west direction. The high speed stream seems to continue through at least 2025-04-25. There was an additional minor increase in solar wind speed starting at 2025-04-29T04:00Z from 375 km/s to a sustained speed of about 440 km/s for several hours. There is a corresponding minor increase in temperature and density. This very minor re-enhancement is very likely due to the irregular shape of the large CH in the southern hemisphere which contains an embedded AR 14065 which possibly partially temporarily obstructed the high speed solar wind from the coronal hole. Another possible candidate is a very small coronal hole centered at about S05W60 at the time this minor enhancement began and which had crossed central meridian on 2025-04-24.
